What layout mode preserves
Font sizes and weights, column splits, table grids, background colors, logos, charts, photos, stamps and signatures are preserved. Only the text is replaced.
The most common cause of broken translations is the difference in text length between languages. Instead of dropping text in, each page is composed again so longer translations fit the space available.
For documents where only the content matters, plain text mode is faster and returns text without formatting.
